Born on 15 August 1957 in Karimnagar (Andhra Pradesh) into the family of the late Mr Gulam Hussain Khan, who was a Police Inspector with the Government of Andhra Pradesh till 28 December 1968, Dr Khan learnt to lead a principled life from the teachings of his parents, and teachers at St John's XXIII English Medium School, Karimanagar (AP). He cherishes the fact that apart from his parents, Sr Mary Bethena, the late Dr HM Patel, Principals Subhash Jain and RC Desai, Professors RA Dave, KD Kurtkoti, and Pravin J Patel were the scholars under whom he had the privilege of being a mentee. He records his gratitude to them and says that he learnt useful lessons of hard work, truthfulness, academic honesty etc from each of them. He holds all of them in very high esteem.
